Growing up in Delaware and the high desert of Colorado, it would have been impossible to imagine that Christa Funk would become one of the world’s most beloved surf photographers—gracing the covers of revered surf magazines and earning a reputation for her rare combination of endurance and a spectacularly talented eye. Perhaps most impressive is that she reached this pinnacle with a magnetic sense of kindness leading the way. Thanks to a childhood commitment to competitive swimming and a noteworthy career in the Coast Guard, Christa’s path now seems almost orchestrated in retrospect.
